Court jester goby (rainfords)

I see the captive bred offering of this fish.. anyone have any experiences?

Seems the wc are hard to get eating and some say algae is important (some disagree)..

Also see a few references to sifting sand..

My tank is BB... any experiences with the captive bred version of this fish? Thanks!

I only have experience with wild caught, so can't speak to the captive ones, but one or two generations of being bred in captivity won't do much to counter their instincts that are part of what presents their challenges.

They eat diatoms and algae and sift. Have had one for three years and never seen it take any kind of food.

We keep them in the store quite often. I'm pretty sure they are wild caught. I have them eating mysis and I'm pretty sure I've seen a few picking at the nori we feed the tangs. Not sure that helps, but they seem pretty hardy and are kept in a copper system just fine for us. For what it's worth (probably not much) I haven't noticed any sand sifting going on and we do keep sand in the lower tanks.

You don't see hectors gobies sifting sand? I'd say something's wrong with them or you've got the wrong fish.

I've had one for a few months now. He sifts sand and picks at any algae on the rocks. I've never actually seen him take food but he seems to be doing well.

While that's be true, their care level is near identical. I meant to say rainsford in my previous post and misspoke. However, they are both primarily sand sitters.
