i know it isnt much lol but going to be a canary wrasse in a couple days so figure i would make sure it wouldnt become a jumper.

The eggcrate shouldnt mess with lighting correct?

It will reduce the par a bit. Clear mesh would be a better choice and allows more light through (less par reduction), but if your coral is still getting enough par after the reduction, eggcrate will work just fine :)

Just a heads up, if the wrasse is small enough, they can still jump through eggcrate. Keep this in mind if you get any of the smaller specimens.

By the way, if you really want a neat fact, there are two "sides" to the eggcrate. One side "focuses" the light and the other "diffuses" the light.

Hmm that interesting, by chance would know what side does what?

better off with glass as this will filter light drastically.
Screen would be best choice.

Any suggestions on what type of screen? Just small, ridgid screen from home depot or lowes?

Check out brs clear mesh. From there you can choose to buy from them or other vendors. Easier to point you there compared with describing it. (It's not window screen)

I believe you either have to eyeball it or measure with calipers- the dimensions are pretty small, something like 0.04 vs 0.06 inches or something around that. In truth, the effect is really only applicable if the light source is near the egg crate. Once you mount your lights away from the eggcrate (more than a few inches) the effect diminishes and at some distance that I can't remember, it's all but negligible.

For your purposes, it's more of a factoid. It only comes into play when installing them near fluorescent lighting like in an office setting or similar applications in reef tanks where the two are near each other.
