Covering my C2C?

I have unintentionally created an “algae trough” in my C2C overflow. I’m thinking of blocking the light with this:

I use that same foam PVC material (bought from HD) to shade the skim box in my tank. Good thing is that it floats.

Is it pretty rigid?
I have short spans. 5’ tank with a center brace.

The stuff I used was Palight ProjectPVC 1/4" and it's quite flexible.

I cleaned most of the algae out of my overflow box yesterday and covered it today. It looks good and should keep the light out of it.
