Covering your Tank Top for Jumpers?

OK Folks , so whats your way of covering your Rimless and non-rimless tanks to stop your fish from Jumping out???I used clear plastic screen and made my tops from the screen department in HD , but this sits in my built in rim slot on my 160, Now trying to figure a way to use the same clear plastic screen and still keep my 24"x24" cube rimless without using that black painted sit on top glass holder. :noidea:

While egg crate may be easy to fit, it also blocks out a lot of light. I built my screen using clear nylon screening I purchased at BRS and purchased a window screen frame @ HD but I also am looking for a way to make it more attractive for my rimless tank

I made my own, very similar to saltys.

Only problem first time I made mine to light in weight.
Next morning after making it I found a wrasse ontop of it.

I remade it with electrical conduit as the frame and put some weight in it.

I have been pondering cutting a piece of acrylic in a frame shape that will go over the tank, then another one smaller that will fit on the inside of the tank. I was thinking of attaching the clear screen sandwiched in between the 2 acrylic pieces and gluing them together

I got the kit from BRS and built the screen, replacing a glass top. It made a HUGE difference in PAR

Eggcrate is the absolute worse thing to use. I used this for over a year and never noticed how much it diffuses the light. I built my own with bird netting and window screen framing. It allows way more light to go into your tank and is not a defuser.

I wish I could protect everyone from using Eggcrate.

Well yeah, in the hobby we generally call it eggcrate but in a home improvement store you'll likely find it in the lighting section under the title light diffuser. That's it's real purpose. But like you said, and I agree, it's a terrible solution for a top. As others have, I would recommend the BRS screen top DIY kit. I love mine and fits perfectly.

I have some materials from bulk reef supply I plan on making my own too. My screen looks just like saltys. Bulk reef supply has 2 size screens, both clear - local hardware store only had black.

I know BulkReefSupply.com has the kit and also the screen separately that matches saltys picture but obviously I can't speak for where he got his, hope this helps

I got the screen from BRS but Lowe's/Home Depot has the same frame/spline for a lot less.

Nothing looks worse to me than a covered rimless tank not to mention the loss of par. I buy my fish accordingly and if I get a jumper I just consider it "at my own risk investment" so far so good. If you don't have any aggressive fish jumpers wont jump.

Not necessarily true, I just lost a premium snowflake clown (female) & all I have were the 2 clowns, chromis and flame gobies. I had taken off the top cause I feel the same way you do but had to put it back on
