anyone know whats wrong with my cowfish? he was fine yesterday and I woke up to him like this.. his bestfriend (a green chromis) randomly vanished in the tank two days ago and im not sure why as my parameters are where they should be. when he swims it looks like stuffing in a way if that makes sense. he just looks like flakey like he has dry skin? he looks normal otherwise and so do all my other fish.

Tough to see clearly from the vantage point, but the fish might have an injury to its left eye, with secondary bacterial infection, or it could have Brooklynella, a protozoan disease.
Are there other animals in the tank aside from the missing green chromis?
More background info is needed, take a look at the link below my name here (turn your phone sideways if needed, to view it)

I added another photo of one side of his body but from the looks of it its only right on his face and eye. i cant get him to turn to the other side even tho he follows me everywhere

I currently have two mocha clowns, a powder blue tang, and a half black angel and nobody has bothered him in the 3 months ive had him. my best guess if its an eye injury it could be from the rockwork in the corner he chills in. also couldnt find the link

Update video of his eye as this is the best i could get

There may have been aggression, cowfish are aggressive themselves too.

Do you have a treatment tank available? The video helped me see it more clearly, but I still can’t say if this is bacterial or Brooklynella…

I indeed have a hospital tank, just not sure how to treat anything as ive never run into any issues

I’ve seen cow fish, even sold the at my pet store and have Never seen one aggressive
The fact you’ve had one thrive well this long is impressive as they usually shut down with feeding, eyes get sunken in and you can guess the outcome
Quarantine is a simple set up with the basics you’d find with a starter kit matching similar salinity and temperature to display tank and treatment for eye will be ethromyacin better known as Maracyn or Maracyn 1 for at least 5 days
Add aeration with air stone during treatment and maintain good water quality

ive had really good luck with all the fish ive gotten at my petstore (more like a massive warehouse with everything imaginable called that fish place that pet place) all the animals are in good health and they make sure you are doing things correctly and not selling to just anyone. all the cowfish ive ever seen there were in excellent shape and they sometimes have some fairly large cowfish. I setup the hospital in the meantime and am gonna do as you said + treat for possible Brooklynella as it kinda looks like that but his eye does look funky at the same time so hopefully i can get him back in good health :) thank you for the help

edit:
after looking more into brooklynella I dont personally think its as he is acting completely normal so im hoping it stays that way

In the future, need at least a 20-30 second video. Now I see it. Agree with Jay on bacterial and treatment is Seachem neoplex. Skip the maracyn
