So i have a duncan coral frag and an emerald crab. I come home to see the crab picking at the duncan and it being fully retracted, Even more retracted then when i got it. WHAT DO I DO? get rid of crab or like is the coral maybe dead? Let me know

No joke I tried to keep my BRUTUS. But he got to mich and even in a bigger tank he still wanted to eat corals. He even started going after my nems.
He is seriously in a white 5 gallon bucket that I change my water with and throw food in each week. No heater, no powerhead, no light, just the white bucket and BRUTUS. It's been about 2 weeks to a month I would guess....I posted of him about that long ago lol

They are resilient!

I have no emerald crabs in my tank because someone told me they do pick on corals ... not sure if it’s true maybe someone knows for sure. If it’s me .. I take the crab out

I have no crabs whatsoever. In my first 5 years, I seemed to be losing things for not reason.
It’s now been more than 20 years without one crab and I have not lost anything. No more trips to the LFS to add snails, no corals pulling back or worse disappearing.

When I first got into this hobby I was told get some crabs in your CUC.........NOT!
I was told they clean up algae........NOT.......or just such a small amount it’s not worth the risk.

Good set of snails, (I have no wrasses) and real stable water, 6 clams, that’s my CUC....

I have an Emerald crab. No preoblems with her eating corals. I did once freak out thinking she was picking at my Blastomussa Merletti but I looked closely and she was just poking the polyps to get them to close so she could pick the algae inbetween the polyps.

That said, I have heard (from youtube, here on R2R, and other forums) that it is Male Emeralds that will pick at corals, not females. As mine is female, I can honestly say that she has never picked or harmed a coral in any way. However, since I have no experience with males of the species, I have nothing to go off of other than what other people say.

another vote for sump him.

only crab i trust are pom pom crabs. Bothe their claws are busy holding their protection and utensils lol. All others have the chance to act like crabs do. “I can eat that”.

I love your optimism and wish you the best!!

I had 2 and they had little baby emerald eggs and the female would let them go out of her belly like she was tossing salad. The fish ate them as quickly as she could make them.

BOTH of the emeralds ate my corals. I thought they were just eating the algea around them also....but nope, I witnessed both eat polyps on the same frag. Like one told the other these taste really good!!

I hope you dont ever run into that problem and I wish I never did as I really like crabs!!
