Came in on some TBS rock and chillin' in the observation tank. Reddish/maroon color, smooth shell, hairy legs, no black tips on claws. Less than an inch wide leg-to-leg.

He's a happy little dude so if he can't go in the DT he'll move into the observation tank as a permanent resident.

Maybe a Ruby Mithrax?

I had a mithrax crab come in on my life rock, was tiny first but grew to 3 inch leg to leg and started killing my urchins(juvenile tuxedos) and snails(trochus) Got evicted after that.

I'm gonna let this lil buddy try out the DT but I'll be eyeballin' him to make sure he's a good citizen.

First escargot meal and it's back to the observation tank for him!

Yes, red mithrax. I had one also on TBS rocks. I don't trust crabs so she lived in the "sin bin" for a good long while. Was a great algae eater. I finally rehomed her when I added a fish and she fought with it.

THE SIN BIN. :grinning-squinting-face:

@vetteguy53081 posted this picture of a Ruby Mithrax on another thread and it's an exact match for my new buddy.

Into the DT he goes and hopefully he makes good life choices!

safe and prettier than the emerald green

Red mithrax are good algae eaters and generally reef safe.
Keep an eyeball on it as it matures, some get a taste for sps polyps.

(Easy to catch with a glass leaned against rock with a shrimp/meaty morsel in it.)

UPDATE: Li'l Crabner has been in the DT for 24 hours and made "friends" with the neon green toadstool.

Yo, Crabner -- the toadstool isn't really into you. :grinning-face-with-sweat:

If I wake up tomorrow to a headless toadstool it's a permaban into the observation tank for Crabner, but so far it looks like he's just chillin'.

He's really cute. :smiling-face:

Every night like clockwork Crabner crawls into the toadstool at lights-out and sleeps there until morning. Hasn't nipped it at all.

Toadstool is fine with it.
