Can anyone ID this crab w pictures provided? He came on some LR and has been hanging in my tank for a month or two. He seems to stay on the bottom in one area of tank. Good or bad? Thanks!

I have one like that also. I don't think he's harmed anything...yet. Most will say remove from tank which i plan to do. He will go into sump with the last one i caught.

Heavy, black-tipped claws on a crab like this fellow indicate that he's unlikely to be fully reef-safe. (There are many who maintain that _crabs_ are unlikely to be fully reef-safe!)

I think that the family group may be "Xanthid" - but that's a big family. The ideal role in your system may be "Sump Lord".

Thank you for the replies. So far I am just keeping an eye on him. I dont think he is big enough to do any damage at this point and he seems to stay in 2 spots on the bottom. If/when he gets bigger I may consider a move. Right now he is enjoying eating the leftover food scraps that fall his way.
