Crab id help please

Howdy!

I was doing my water change and weekly maintenance this morning and saw a crab in my tank. I don’t have any though.

Kind of a cool surprise, but I am now wondering if he’s safe for my coral and fish. I did buy live rock several months ago. I guess it’s possible he’s remained hidden all this time. Attempted to get a pic but by the time I installed an orange lens he was gone. About 2 inches max. Hairy looking but not orange like “Florida hairy crabs” I’ve seen. He appeared very dull colored under the early light. Brown or khaki.
Including bigger photo for reference. Looks like he might have eaten a head off that torch. Hard to say. Hopefully he will help with that GHA instead if eating coral. My tan is too small for a tang.

I didn’t catch the big one last night - only a few hermits. Looks like I had my first victim possibly. Wrasse was Happy and healthy for a year. Found him with a chunk missing from his back this morning.

Are there any species of wrasse mean enough to tackle a gorilla crab? Lunar? I know they are the devil. Just thinking outside the box in terms of the lesser of two evils. The big crab is too smart for the glass trick.

I think a Harlequin Tusk would likely chomp 'em, but having no experience there directly, that is just speculation.

Aint no way a crab killed a melanarus wrasse. He died from something else and was being eaten.

Maybe but he was healthy, fully colored up even when I found him. So hard to guess in these tanks. First fish I’ve lost in this tank. Seems coincidental.

Had to take the entire scape apart, but I got them both.
