So I saw this little guy about 2 years ago and he was about 1/2" big, a few months ago I saw him again and he was about 2.5-3" fully extended!! Been trying to catch him for weeks with no luck until late last night I saw him casually walking around on my sand bed and scooped him up.

Have never seen him eat anything or touch coral so I have no clue what he eats. I did see him grab a colonista snail once and disappear behind a rock >_<

Can anyone ID him or confirm if he's reef safe? He doesn't have black or pointy claws, they are rounded. Red eyes, brown shell.

He's in my sump right now but I feel bad getting rid of him nor do I want him to starve since he's been part of the family for so long lol

crab but I'm not so sure. need a better pic

Cool I was looking at stone crab a while ago but I never got a good look at him. I pulled him out at like 4 am so sorry about the lack of pics...I'll try to see if I can get better ones tonight.

Googling stone crabs I came across this thread..he looks exactly like this http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1420487 so I think you helped me narrow it down and ID him as Actaeodes tomentosus according to that thread.
