It does look like one of those. He's a cool little guy and indeed in the sump for now; once I get a positive ID if he's harmless I'd like to put him in the DT but if not maybe I'll donate him to my LFS.Looks like a lumpy pebble crab. Or red eyed crab. I would sump it. They can be opportunistic feeders.
Wow, great job with the identification! I figured it was some species of Xanthidae but I think you nailed the genus and species. So it sounds like best left to the sump and not in the display side of my 20 gallon?Looks like an Xanthidae called Acteodes Tomentosus
