I’ve had this guy for a few months. He came in on an acro colony and he didn’t seem to cause damage but today I found him on one of my pieces right on top of a bare spot, so I’m not sure if he was killing it or eating dying flesh.

I’ve decided to remove him until I find out what he is. I haven’t had any problems with him until now so I’m curious as to what it is. In case anyone can’t see, it is light brown with furry legs, light blue eyes, and black tipped claws. He is smaller than a dime.

Not sure exactly species, but looks like a non reef safe guy. Good to remove. Add to sump or area cannot get to corals.

Thanks for the second thought, I agree. I’m thinking he’s a corallivore so the sump is probably nothing but a slow death. I’ll likely just let him be trigger or puffer dinner.

Cymo melanodactylus.

Old school rule of thumb for crabs of unknown species -- if it's hairy and/or fuzzy it's probably not reef safe.

Call in the puffers. SNACK TIME KIDS!!
