Crab Type?

Used to have 2 emerald crabs, saw this guy today in a zoa colony. Safe, or remove? Pretty sure my emeralds died. Removed molts/bodies and this one's claws look different. 10 gallon nano, assorted coral, chromi, clown

I think it is a decorator crab. I have one, but it is much bigger.

Definitely not an emerald. I'd question whether it was a decorator. IMO, if you can grab him and sump him, that would probably be best.

I agree with above^^ It looks like a type of xanthid crab. I would sump it. Oh and welcome to R2R

I love this site....I'm learning something new everyday. Having never heard of this crab, I looked it up and was surprised to find that it's toxic....toxins are similar to the tetrodotoxin and saxitoxin produced by pufferfish (deadly stuff!), and the toxin has no antidote nor can it be denatured with heat. Ouch! I'm not even sure I'd want this guy in my sump.

Thanks. I have had two clowns jump out in the middle of the night and they both sleep in that spot. I’m wondering if it was him that startled them now. I gotta lid from octa aquatic now.
