I have had hitchhiker crabs multiple times in the past. The ones I had usually ended up eating zoanthids that I had on my sand bed.
What I did was to take a small baby food jar and place it in the tank propped up against the rock work at about a 45 degree angle to the rock.
Then take a small piece of uncooked shrimp and rubber band it to a small rock and put it in the jar.
It may take many nights and you may catch every hermit you have multiple times, but don't give up. Sooner or later it will happen.

I have found that almost all crabs are predatory by nature.
Even though they have a particular food they eat in the wild, by removing it from the wild we take away the foods they usually look for.
So, in our tanks they look for something else, and since we already have clean up crews taking care of uneaten fish food, the competition for it is high, so they look for other sources.
And those sources usually turn out to be our corals and even fish.
I would consider that crab to be of no benefit to your tank.
