So I’ve seen the cracked tank threads and understand that I should probably replace it but I’ll ask anyways. So because how my stand was designed to get a larger sump I had to drill 2 20g tanks and connect them with bulkheads and pvc. This is for a 133 gallon tank btw.

At some point as I was installing it I guess a crack about 9in long and maybe 1/4-1/3 of the way through the glass. I didn’t see this until I started filling the tank so I filled it with silicon and later both sides of the crack with very thick layers of silicon. It’s been running for 2 days now and seems to be fine but I thought I would ask anyways.

Please leave your reasoning as well I’m curios and would like to learn

A 9inch long crack, safe to say that will probably let go at some point. How thick is the glass?

If it’s ok for now, I’d work on drilling another and switch as soon as you can. That icon won’t hold long.

Scratch the 9 that was an estimate I found the actual crack, hard to see under the silicon, and it’s more like 6.5in. The tank is a Normal 20 tall so probably 3/16 or 1/4in thick

So I have a plan now I think it will work. I’m tearing down the sump right now and I’m just so done with sumps cracking on me so this time I’m going to take the time to use a sureform and strip away 1/4 inch of wood so I can fit a 55 gallon sump underneath the tank.
