Hello
Hope someone can tell me why this single polyp shrivels up when the parent colony right next to it is plump and happy. It’s done this multiple times and eventually will go back to looking like the rest. This was originally a small watermelon sized colony and after breaking it into three pcs this one little polyp separated so I just put him off to the side hoping he will start growing.

Could be flow, intense light in that one area, etc. I've experienced 2 exact same corals inches from one another with one thriving and the other doing horribly. Also, calaustrea will deflate time to time so it could be trying to acclimate. Seeing that it's been 8 weeks you might need to find another spot if doesn't thrive.

How’s the flow? Mine hates too much flow

It’s getting about the same as the parent which, as you can see is doing well. The strange thing is it does this about the same time as the lights ramp down. Next morning it’s right as rain and seems normal all day or will be fine for several days before shriveling again just at or around dusk.

I'd just keep an eye on it. If it's not receding and has a feeding response then you might be good. The parent colony looks great. Ive had this same coral deflate normally day to day as well.

+1 what they said [emoji121]️ I’ve had my Candy Cane for about 4 months now. Originally started out in my 30. It always seemed to be shriveled and deflated. Although sometimes would be puffy and looking good. Moved it over to a new 75 and found that it was doing great. The one side that was being hit by a little bit of flow would look deflated, but the side away from flow would look healthy as can be.

Appreciate all the help. Hope to see this little guy eventually begin to grow but will consider moving him around if he doesn't.

Update: decided to leave him alone and continue observation. The inflate deflate continued but then noticed new polyp growth. He’s almost a double now! Yea! I wonder if this is some kind of power converter symptom as it gets ready to grow?
