man......i must have gotten something in my eye the other night after doing some stuff in my tank.

(NO, its NOT palytoxin)

i didn't even touch any corals, i was just doing a routine tank inspection and picking up some clumsy snails that had fallen over.

normally i wash my hands immediately after placing them in the tank, this time i didnt...and instead let them air dry....but i must have rubbed my eye at some point (i have a cat...so i come down with allergens suddenly sometimes).

it bothered me a little bit at night before going to bed, but this morning when i woke up my eye was encrusted shut (obvious symptom of bacterial pink eye).

i went and picked up some over the counter drops for viral pink eye at the drug store......and hoping it works.

my eye improved much during the day, cleared up about 50% (still 50% red though). no swelling or any signs of infection thank goodness......but its still pretty umcomfortable.

i need to figure out a way to get ahold of some anti-bacterial eye drops without a perscription (I'm not paying a doctor $150 for an office visit just to get a perscription of something that I know I already need, that is dirt cheap at the pharmacy.......esspecially since i don't have health insurance at the moment).

anyways, if anyone knows of a way to get those eye drops let me know!

and just remember to wash your hands after putting your hands in your tank!

That sucks I have done that a few times over the past few months, I went to the doctor because I wasn't sure if it was that or a cold sore in my eye, which I didn't know you could get till a few years ago when it happened. He gave me some tobramicyn and the script was for 2 little bottles. Good thing to have one hand.....You have a health clinic that you can go to for cheap? I know Western Michigan University has one thats where all my old buddies would go for the "cure" they do a lot of medical work for the Students and the poor....

hmmm, i don't know of any local places that are on the cheap side....unless its down in the ghetto area....lol

if i was in blacksburg still, it wouldn't be a big deal. i think the doctor i went to only had $50 office charges.....and i had insurance so i didnt pay a thing.

i've squirted my eye with saltwater many times to the point it gets irritated for a couple of hours. but the fact that its been really red for 24hrs and crusted up over night.....just screams pink eye or abbrassion. maybe i got some salt crystals in my eye or something...

i've seen enough pink eye on the football team back when i was a trainer in college.......so i know what to do and what precautions to take....really only need those drops. thus don't really want to pay an arm and a leg for an opinion i already know......lol

i just had pink eye and my doctor gave me vigamox eye drops. Worked great and cleared up my eye in a few days. I couldnt figure out where i got my infection from but after reading this, it kinda makes sense. Now i will wash my hands everytime i touch something in my tank.

Yeah, I spent more than a few nights with my eyes pussed up and in pain from the tanks. I remember one night standing in the shower for more than an hour flushing my eyes. Waking up blind(eyes pussed shut) and not being able to open them for an hour.

I always figured it was a bristle worm or something small that scratched the eyeball. Last time it happened I was fragging a rock of zoanthids. The rock exploded into my fast. I am not exagerating. The next day was the Foster and Smith swap and my eyes were in pain all day. Almost didn't go.

Don't even get me started on the groin area. I learned real fast to wash my hands before I ever touch anything after having my hands in teh tank.

wow, your skin must be really sensitive to stuff in your tank.

the only skin problems i get, is if i'm re-arranging rock for HOURS.......i may break out in a few hives on my arm......but nothing some benadryl can't cure overnight.

or then again, it might be wealts from where my clown fish attacks me....lol

but aside from the obvious bacterial compunds that can be found in corals, and in the water column.......i notice that saltwater from tanks crystalizes much more easier than ocean water. and the fact that many of us dose liquid baking soda and liquid calcium chloride into our tank......those kinds of things will REALLY make your eyes burn.
