Crashing after water change

Did you check the salinity recently? Just curious what's it at after adding the newly mixed water after the water change. I usually mix my salt water the night before a water change and run a power head in it to continue mixing it up. 12 hours minimum.

I think it may have been a sudden temp drop that caused stress on your livestock if your salinity reads fine. I would definitely check temps next time for large water changes. What's your total system volume and how old is your tank?

You can add a couple fish at a time and see how they do.

SG is still 1.025. When I introduced a clown 24 hours after the original water change it began having the same symptoms, would a temperature drop from the day before still cause that? Tank is 32g biocube and I added around 14g during water change. The system is 5-6 months old. I usually do a 5-10g change weekly and was doing them more often mid Dec due to high nitrates and phosphates, but had gotten them under better control and was back to weekly.

Temp drop from before wouldn't have caused it. Possibly bad water or salt mixture then.

I have seen similar posts from users who use salt from a LFS. Sometimes a contaminant gets in the bucket...soap...a screw...so on.

Your best bet is to buy gallons of distilled water and mix your own water. Distilled will be just as good as RODI imo without the risk of LFS water.

I would do this and do a large water change asap.

I did a 15g water change that I mixed myself using distilled water. Coral started looking much better so I moved one clown back into the tank and after it seemed fine for a day I moved the rest of my fish back. Thanks, everyone!

Id toss the API test kits, they're garbage IMO. Get some salifert, hanna, even red sea... You really shouldnt have ANY ammonia in your tank. Look for clues as to why you have it and address it. Thats where id start.

I'm glad things are getting better for you. In addition to the suggestions others have made, if you suspect contaminants in your tank it's good to have a Poly-Filter on hand to help with removal. They remove a wide range of contaminants including organics, ammonia, heavy metals, etc. If the concentrations are high enough the filter changes color and will indicate what contaminant was removed. They're very helpful to have on hand and highly recommended as a part of any reefers emergency tool kit. I hope things keep improving for you!
