Just picked up this beast. Arrives wednesday. Never seen anything like it. 7.5" tall and my seahorse will love it! I'm so excited!! !

I don't think so. I called DD and they said it will eat baby brine shrimp. I have live enriched baby rotifers so that ought to do it.

This is a deep water coral often collected at the reef ledge zone... this zone of the reef often varies in temps ranging from approx. 62f-85f.
The coral does, however, lack zoozanthellae and is therefore non photosynthetic, therefore requiring feedings of live plankton from brine shrimp, rottifers, phytos,.....

Chironepthya sp. 7" tall, 11" wide

I don't think anyone can top this when it comes to NPS: :D

Thanks. You can see the little white polyps coming out the tips of the purple.

This is really neat. I was looking at some pictures of where alot of these non photosynthetic corals grow, ermmm..."upside down" on the reef. Hanging from the undersides of rock and such. I wonder if people might experience better luck with these if they were to suspend them "upside down" in thier tanks to replicate where they came from naturally. Maybe it wont matter at all, but I wonder if anyone has tried it....

I would if I could. I just don't have enough room in my biocube. It seems happy for now though with great polyp extension. i need to get another pic!

Yes, more pics!

It would be an interesting experiment for someone who was interested in the non photosynthetic stuff.

Some non-photosynthetic corals do grow upside down, many (most) do not. It all depends on their location and where the food source is most prevelant, along with where the planula settle.
