Ok, so thought we would open up a post for those experiences with unusual or just crazy request/problems that walk into your local LFS.

Customer: Im looking for nemo and dory for my eight year old son. Something easy and low maintenance.

LFSOWNER: Have you tried renting the movie finding Nemo?

You guys and gals know the rest of the story. Please share yours.

Seems like a dangerous game for an LFS to play. Flaming or belittling customers may turn other future customers away. I know it's tempting when there are threads regarding bad stores or bad advise...but consumers don't need stores so to speak they can always shop online, but stores need the consumers.

Myself I would love to read some stories from the other side of the fence, just throwing in my 2 cents.

I would love to hear some funny stories! Bring it on! :)

Its all in fun nothing serious or insulting need apply. It just fair game in my opinion and I have no problems hearing stories from the other side.

I could be mistaken but I think this thread is intended to somehow balance out the fact that there is an another thread here they are belittling local fish store workers.

Nobody is directly belittling anyone. For all we know the stories could be fake. I have yet to read any post that was directed at anyone.

I created both threads as something to laugh at, but if we get our feelings hurt or directly insult someone here on the forum, I will request for both of them to be closed out.

Problem isn't the post themselves but the lack of self control and people taking things a little to seriously.

So lets get back to a few good laughs.

I once had a woman flip out on me and screamed at me that her sister had a goldfish for a few years in a bowl when I tried to explain to her the proper care for goldfish.

A week later she was back to buy a tank, no apology.

I was just making a comment. I too would love to hear some as I am sure there are some doosies

As far as unusual I once heard a customer request a 5ft eal!

I have enjoyed the stories in the other thread, and I hope this thread makes for a good laugh as well. However, I do want to ask all of you folks reading this thread for some basic things as well.
  1. Remember in telling your stories that you want to avoid anything that would indicate any specific stores or individuals. The stories need to remain anonymous.
  2. Please remember R2R is a family-friendly forum, and so all posts should be clean of vulgarity/profanity
  3. Also, I would encourage everyone to be careful about any posts that are overly negative or self-exalting. These stories are funny, but we all started out at one point, and most of us (except for you super geniuses) made noob mistakes too. Just think someone may have overheard a conversation you had back then and post it in here. :)
Having given that last point, don't be afraid to tell some of your own crazy stories in here. Remember we're a friendly group here. We won't laugh at you...we'll laugh WITH you. :)

My own story in getting into this hobby is actually pretty funny. I caught 5 fighting conchs and 2 HUGE queen conchs at the beach while vacationing in Florida (didn't realize I shouldn't have been collecting at the beach...). I was so excited about them that I took a 2 gallon container and some sand with my new "snails" all the way back to Virginia with me. I thought, "Hey, I've been thinking I'd set up an aquarium for a little while...I'll do salt instead of freshwater...how hard can it be?" :D Those poor little "snails" lived in that 2 gallon container for 2 weeks while I tried to figure out how to set up my first aquarium (I'd never kept ANY aquarium before...salt or fresh). Oddly enough, all the conchs lived until I gave them away or sold them to other reefers over the years...and that's how I got started... :D

Admin: As the original poster can we close this thread?
As much as we would all enjoy a good laugh we don't want anyone to feel it is at their expense. It isn't the R2R way so I prefer to move on to avoid any unintentional hurt feelings.
