I am getting ready to start a new tank with dry Fiji rock. I will add some seeded Siporax and a little live rock from my other tank after the dry rock cycles. New tanks started with dry rock usually have some rough starts and are prone to all kinds of uglies. Over the years I have been though them all, most do not scare me but I really hate Dinos. This seems to be due to lacking bacteria and other things found in live rock. Anyway I was wondering if pouring the skimate from my other tank into the new display could actually be benifishall? When would be the best time to add it during dry rock cycle or after?

Thanks I am well aware of those and plan on using one or two of them. Most people do and also get Dinos. I am not asking how to cycle a tank I am wondering how many useful bacteria, aminos and such could be sitting in a skimmer cup from a healthy established tank?

I'd rather have a scoop of sand or even sump-muck-detritus, but I suppose skimmate is worth something too. (Seems like it would be mostly dead though.)

Shortly after that start a 50% vodka (80proof) PLUS 50% vinegar regiment. Randy Holmes Farley says its pretty much the same as using Nopox.

This dosing will have good bacteria growing like wildfire and devour no3 and po4 like a beast

I went from 20ppm no3 to 0 in 4 weeks dosing the combo above. GHA gone!

For my 180g I dose 1oz-vodka + 1oz-vinegar at 9am and again st 11pm

I'm FOREVER dosing this way after seeing my zoas take off with color and growth. 110% sold on this method

There is a ton of bacteria and bacteria food in there... why not? Although I agree that getting sediment or sump gunk is the way to go.

That’s what I am thinking.

It's non-selective and can promote bad bacteria just as easily. RHF also said this. :)

I agree, that could be a disaster in a new tank.
