Crazy Idea To Use Acclimation Box To

I will try to make this easy to follow. I got lazy and left my acclimation box in the display tank. You can see what it looks like now. What if I cleaned it, and placed it to the side of the tank, and put a ball of Chaeto in there. Would the tank lighting and flow actually grow Cheato in the box, right in my display tank? (Then I could just pull it periodically from there.) I'm not really asking about the ascetics of having a box full of Cheato in the DT, just the working concept. Thanks!

I tried something like that and it didn’t really work for me. Couldn’t get it to tumble and mostly it just got burnt.

Its going to depend on it getting enough flow and making sure it dont burn that top layer of cheato. I did similar once and get it to work but i had to put eggcrate "roof" on it about 1" from water otherwise top layer would fry. However just keeping the top a bit below water surface allowed me to grow nice thick cheato in there and i just manually turned it every few days and harvested weekly.

Yep. I've got an "in tank refugium" in my frag tank. Used one of the $5 acclimation boxes and some caulerpa from my display sump (I have better luck with caulerpa than chaeto). Grows great; just be aware that it likely will grow through the netting.

I just trimmed it so when it grows out again I'll try to remember to get a pic. Honestly, it's just a cheap breeder box (the one with the blue plastic frame) with macro inside... Pretty easy to picture if you close your eyes, lol.
