Hi All! Just wanted to pop in and say hi! My girlfriend and I are just getting started in the hobby out in SLC, Utah. Looking forward to learning and being a part of the reefing community!
I'm an engineer with a 3D printer, CNC, and machine shop in my garage, so I'm an absolutely relentless designer, builder, and tinkerer. True to form, I'm diving into the reefing hobby by purchasing a reef-ready tank and immediately un-reef-readying it! We picked up a sparkly new RedSea Reefer 300 XL to fit in a nice spot as a room divider, and immediately ripped off the black backing and cut out the overflow tower to begin converting the tank into a lightly Frankenstein-ed peninsula tank. (In our defense... we did look at the RedSea peninsula tanks, but they were way too big for our target location, so we're improvising a bit to get exactly what we want)
I'll start up a build thread to update as things progress, but as long as I've got the mic... has anyone drilled a RedSea reefer before? I've got a prodigy external overflow intended for the (now) back panel of the peninsula tank, but before I drill I want to be certain the glass isn't tempered. If it is I'll just have to settle for a pumped hang-on overflow to get the peninsula working, but I've got my fingers crossed that I can drill the tank for a truly custom feel. Thanks all! Excited to get rolling!
