I’ve been hearing this noise coming from the tank late at night. It was driving me insane. I couldn’t tell where it was coming from. I just knew it was coming from the area where the tank was. It sounded like a mouse chewing on something in my walls. I could describe it as a vibrating squeaking sound. I finally figured it out. For those of you that have Trochus snails, let me tell you what they do. They have a habit of intermittently twisting their shells back and forth against the glass. I caught one red handed doing this. Twisting there bodies so to speak. The friction with their shells makes this noise I suppose. It makes a sound that can be heard from across the room. I’m just glad I don’t have mice. Just thought I’d share.

I've seen them do that on the rock work. Just cruising along and suddenly go into some crazy Fats Domino dance. Never thought they could move so fast.

Hmm, brings to mind a very oddly patterned scratch that appeared inside my previously mint tank. I wonder if they could do that with enough force to actually scratch the glass with their shells.....

I was literally going crazy. Lol. I did my research on what it might be. I found very limited info. At first I thought it might be a hitch hiker. Possibly a mantis or pistol. But the sound they make doesn’t sound like what I was hearing. Geez, I’m just glad I figured it out. They do move their shells crazy fast!!! I wonder why they do this. Who knows!

I heard a clicking noise once drove me nuts for a while , turned out to be my trigger clacking his teeth LOl
I have a much smaller tank than I had years ago. I miss my clown trigger. He was a bruiser. Jekyll and hide personality. He would make noises as well! Crazy!!

I wonder the same thing. It’s so dang loud from across the room. You know it has to be doing something to the glass. Of course they don’t weigh much, but still!!! I’m just glad I don’t have acrylic!!!

Haha, I recently too figured this out. For a while I thought I had a mantis shrimp hitchhiker.

Resurrection but I think I have the same thing going on.. I thought it might be a fish too but just to weird. Seen them go crazy before but never went to inspect.. happens almost every night almost same time for a minute or so. I do have trochus snails. Could it be a stressor or mating thing... they sperm the water a lot after lights out.
