crazy PE at night time

few days ago i went to look at my before bed like i do every night and i was amazed by the polyp extension of all of my sps corals I've had some good pe but this is crazy its been like this every night now. just switched over to esv salt and started dosing mag alk and cal do you think it has something to do with this?

heres a couple pics tried shining a light on the coral while taking them but they sill came out dark

Can't tell you about the salt but i'm sure dosing and checking your params has a lot to do with it! Looking good!
 
I am a nocturnal person and I have seen that kind of difference in my tank every night, I take advantage of this behavior by usually feeding the corals at night, it makes a lot of sense as the fish usually retrieve.
I always thought it was normal behavior at least from what I have observed while diving during the day and at night at coral reefs.
I usually have minimal PE during the day, I believe that corals that show PE during the day hours are normally in tanks with minimal to no natural predators like angels and butterflies, my tank has plenty of both and therefore corals will not risk extending the polyps as long as they do at night when they feel safer. Always found this fascinating.
 
thanks .. yeah i mean i observe my tank every night and they normally do have greater pe then during the day but this was just more then normal.. i also take advantage of it and feed them :)
