Hey Folks,
I have a question and/or observation I would like to share. It is about parasites and lympho.
First, I am referring to external parasites like ich or flukes.
Now my observation. I have a 20g quarantine tank. It has a copper banded and raccoon ,as well as other butterflies in it at the moment. The last butterfly to go into the tank was the copper banded. He had been quarantined for almost 4 weeks in a separate tank and had the full treatment of copper and prazi. The others in the QT had been in the tank for maybe 3-4 days. The day after I added the Copper banded, lympho showed up on butterflies that had been in there for a few days. A few days later teh CB started to show it - no surprise here. However, when I examined closer, they now all had flukes. I started with the copper(cupramine) and prazi. this has been a few days ago. Now the lympho seems to be clearing up. I believe it is obvious that the lympho was attacking "wounds" left by the parasite.
I did as much reading as I could find on lympho. It seems this is a virus that attacks the fish externally. There is also no known cure for lympho. Prognosis ranges from simple white spots to disfiguration of the fish. No often does it cause fatalities. Best course of treatment is excellent water conditions and allowing it to run its course. I tried a few things like manually removing the lympho spots and dabbing affected areas with iodine. This made it worse. I stopped and sure enough, everything seems to be clearing up.
So here is the crazy question. Is it possible that lympho is one of natures ways of controlling parasites? I don'tthink I quite captured all of my thinking, but it appears to me that the lympho seems to encapsulate the parasitically affected areas and effectively stop its reproduction.
I need to emphasize THIS IS AN OBSERVATION AND THOUGHT, NO SCIENTIFIC TESTING TO CONFIRM THIS HAS BEEN DONE. Sorry to yell this, but I would hate this become some sort of fish lore or legend.
ANyone with thoughts or any way to confirm this????
