Spitballing ideas for my future 72g build and I have this really awesome 2 foot long bow shaped rock that I'm thinking about doing a zoa rainbow on. Well not exactly a rainbow but more of a color spectrum similar to this.

Do all zoas grow at a similar rate? Will one type overcrowd another? If I have to prune and frag continuously so be it but I'm just trying to think of any obstacles that would prevent or make something like this difficult.

Yes, some species will grow faster than others.
You could separate their bases with a fine black plastic, gluing it to the rock with silicone glue forming a corridor, like we do for the gardens.
That way they wouldn't mix their bases.

Grandis.

Really cool idea! I would just get colonies of cheap single-ly based z/p and put em in a line.

I was thinking about this when rearranging my zoas a couple nights ago. There are sooo many zoas that have either yellow orange or green as a predominant colour that it is nearly impossible to follow the spectrum like that. Blue and purple are difficult to find in vivid colours, and when you figure that end out then the rest of the rainbow is splashed with yellow orange and green and the rainbow is lost

It's a bit more realistic to do with palys.
Ex.
Darth maul (red)
Oblivion (orange)
Gold maul (yellow)
Green maul (green)
Electric blue (blue)
Avalanche people eater (purple)

If you figure it out post pics!
