Howdy everyone,
I was hoping some people could take a look at this and tell if they think it might work. I've been trying to come up with a way to create an anaerobic environment within the tank, but I know how people are about deep sand beds. Even in a sump I don't think that a DSB is sufficient. So I started to think about using something like a canister filter and modifying it but cleaning made it impossible. So using some form of modified, air tight container I can create an anaerobic environment with a sand bed. Stealing techniques from culturing anaerobic bacteria, combining sodium borohydride, sodium bicarb, and citric acid you can pull oxygen out of the environment and convert to water and CO2. A balloon is added to capture any extra gases (hopefully NO2) that would be created in the process. Any insight? Changes can be made in where water is pulled and where it's dumped but the concept should be clear.
