It amazes me that over a year of TB live rock being in my tank I still find new critters. Usually I can id them. This critter has me stumped.

It looks like one of my conchs “mouths”. It scrapes only along the rock it comes out of and eats any missed food, fish poo, or whatever it finds. Oddly it’s hole is right beneath one of my mini maxi carpets, it comes out when the lights ramp down, and retracts super quick if you cut them on. Luckily I was able to get some pics with my flash.

Also it has touched the mini maxi with what seems to be no ill effects to either one of them. The “mouth” is also about 5-6” long when fully extended. Pics below. If more are needed, I can get more after lights out. One is wide and one is zoomed and cropped. Any help is appreciated.

Left side is the hole it resides in, right is hole it is probing.

I thought that at first as well, but did not see the “fan” that my others have. The mouth is smooth and mimics eating just like my conch. I guess it could be one and that ok as I have quite a few of them. As long as it doesn’t move like one did and my wife saw it lol. She yelled there is a “D***” thingy in the tank. Either way, if it’s a worm and a good one at that, I am happy.

Do you have nassarius snails? Believe it or not they can stretch out their feeding proboscis (I'm sure that's not the correct term but I didn't want to call it a mouth) a very, very long way. As I learned when I set a trap for my mantis shrimp. The nassarius wouldn't go into the trap but were able to reach the bait by stretching. The proboscis got longer than their whole body length.

Still haven't caught the mantis.

Isn't a snail, it's a worm, and it look like @Bob Loblaw say Peanut worm. The proboscis (at the end of it mouth like) have like a teeth/hard tentacles.
