I have noticed this crocea since 2023 it had a mantle pattern discoloration, and now in 20224 still has the same discoloration. I was wondering if is it either genetic or due to the environment?, if it is genetic I would try to breed it to see if it would result in a more interesting color morph

note: the first picture was from 2023 and the second is from 2024, it became a tad bit duller over the year

It could be genetics? Also, there is no guarantee that any of those traits would pass on to the offspring. Trust me, clam farmers tried to breed blue squamosas and the results were always random with some of them not producing any blue offspring at all.

It could be genetics, and there is no guarantee that it will show up if it is somewhat of a recessive trait. But to my knowledge, the coloration of giant clams doesn't only depend on genetic traits but also environmental factors, early symbiote, and early nutrition.

I’ve noticed my crocea change colors a lot over the past year too.
