So, let's say... uh... my friend ;).... saw sizing for Aqueon 20L tanks on the internet and assumed "since it's on the internet, it must be true".

And let's say those dimensions led me.... I mean, my friend... to get baffles for a sump cut too wide.

What are the implications of having crooked baffles? In this case, the tapered sections actually wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, and possibly would be a positive. Would they also make cleaning easier since detritus would tend to gather in the angled corners?

Anything I'm missing that's going to lead to catastrophic failure or something?

....... asking for a friend. :p

Off my head I would only think fitting equipment may be challenging in some cases. Who knows, maybe some things will fit better. I would not think there would be any flow issues. I assume this is a sump.

Think of it this way, a lot of people probably DIY this and they cannot all get it exactly machine precise. I have also seen AIOs where a baffle was a little off angle.

You can pass that on to your friend.

:)

Tell your friend as long as it's not creating micro bubbles it should be fine. After all that's what they are for.

I think in this case, since I'm putting a wayyyyyyyy oversized skimmer that I bought for another tank in the first section, the angles will actually work in my favor a bit. And angling the return section will give me a little more refugium room!

I haven't siliconed them in, yet. I'm just too impatient to wait until next weekend to go pick up another set haha. I think I'm just going to do it. Worst case, I redo it.

Like this?...
I've got an extremely custom angled sump. Baffles were too big.

Haha yes, but maybe slightly less.

It's ok, my friend, is his seemingly unending streak of hilariously bad luck due to jumping the gun, just realized that:

1) A 30 inch tank will not wedge itself into the area under this stand due to a support (probably could do something about that, but eh);
2) His monster, over-sized skimmer does not fit into the area under this stand due to physics and the inability of solids to occupy the same space.

Batting 1000 huh? Sorry to hear that. I did the same thing once. My dad always said measure twice cut once. I had to extend the hinges on my stand to get the sump to fit underneath. Oops.

Oh, I'm a huge component of measure twice, cut once!

Unfortunately, this was more like measure zero times, TALLY HO!!

The fitting the tank thing isn't a huge deal, I could either shave one side of the door opening by an inch (would be covered by the doors, or I could remove a portion and then glue it back in) or jack it up, remove the center support, and then re-add it afterwards.

The skimmer part is kind of a bummer, though. I bought it for a 150g upgrade, but we're talking about moving in the next year or two, so it's a tough decision to make to proceed with the upgrade, especially how I wanted to do it. This skimmer was never supposed to fit in that spot. The kicker is, I could jusssssst make it work without the tank there, but with that extra 1/2" or so of tank bottom, it won't fit.

No-can-do. I have my tank on a built in storage shelving/cabinet that was in our house when we bought it. Plus, my tank is up top haha. I'm contemplating shortening the collection cup since it has a drain anyways. If I cut it down an inch, I would be able to get the cup in and out.
