I haven't found much about it other then it raises the ph. What other effects will it have on a reef tank. Raise alkalinity? Water hardness? Etc.?

Well, what you found is wrong anyway. It won’t raise the pH unless it is way too low (pH below about 7.7). Like aragonite sand, it may dissolve to slowly add a little alk and calcium, but not generally enough to be significant.
