I was wondering, will crushed coral eventually form part of the biofilter for toxins, and can more of this be used instead of live rock?

Crushed coral or coral rubble is just like using dry rock (also used for calcium reactors). It does provide surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. So it is useful as part of your bio-filtration.

If ceramic can be used for filter media, yes. Lfs uses it. I toss mine in.
