So today I was home waiting on a $1,300+ order from Cali kid which was delayed a whole day And stuck in Indianapolis. So spent a lot of time watching the tank and just around the house. Around noon today I took a glimpse at the tank and all looks fine and the nem is in its box all is normal, at 1pm I take another look and see there’s no nem in the box and flip out of course and look around the tank. He’s never moved at all out of the box in the 4 months or so I’ve had him and my mp10 was fairly far away atleast I thought. So I’m looking and can only 3 small pieces of tentacles around the tank, about a hour later I find him down by the sand by a rock pictures of him right after finding him and the last pic Is him about 15 minutes ago. Any help would be appreciated as I really don’t wanna lose this guy as I was just thinking yesterday he was getting close to splitting. Anyone ever have one get beat up and make a come back? Lesson learned put nem guards on no matter how far away your Powerheads are. First 3 pics are from when I found him and the last 2 from about 11pm.

Wow he’s really messed up. I hope he pulls through for you! I guess put him back in the box and make sure he can’t escape. Stability and water quality are super important right now. If he makes it through the next 24-48 hours without getting worse I say he’s got a pretty good shot. Maybe provide some rubble for him to try to attach to in the box?

I've definitely been there....

He looks rough...his body didn't get cut up did it but? Just the tenticals you saw?

They are tough creatures when they are in a good environments and I know your tank is solid.

The box should be good but you want to keep him from moving while he heals.

Mine looked worse when it went for a spin so im optimistic. I'll try to find pics of my Sherman when it got chewed.

I believe this one has a good chance of survival.
provide moderate light and water flow for now and see how it looks 24-48 from now

It should be fine. My CSB escaped its box and got stuck on my Gyre. All of the tentacles were shaved off. Fortunately the foot and mouth were not damaged and it made a full recovery.

I think people are under the impression (myself included) that shroom boxes with slits can contain (meaning keep inside, preventing escape) anemones. My Zen Reef box had a lid on it and my CSB still escaped through one of the slits. The only box that can contain them is one that has small holes instead of slits.

Doesnt look too bad all things considered. I bet it bounces back.

I have the exact same boxes

Looks like its closed its mouth a bit and looks like it might be attached again, which would be a good sign.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that any box can contain them. They can and have on multiple occasions (more than I can count on two hands) escaped these pond baskets from Home Depot for me. Protect your powerheads, watch out for the random flow generator nozzles with educators (suck flow from back side of nozzle) and consider protecting your overflow weir.

Notice the size of the tiny holes compared to the crushed coral.

Looks like it has a fighting chance. Have Cipro on hand as a last ditch, hail mary effort if things go south, but as long of mouth stays tight and you don't lose more tentacles, I'd recommend staying the course. Important to keep things very stable at this point: water parameters, flow, lighting.

I completely agree. I've lined my boxes with Darice plastic mesh #10 -- that seems to do the trick.
