Hello All!!!
Well I don't know how to begin this so I will jump right in. One of my student-athletes (I'm a High School Track Coach in Oxford Connecticut) has approached me and asked what she could do for a project and my first thought was something reef related. So I had mentioned maybe doing something on reef conservation, effects of global warming/pollution on the reefs. Now from what I understand of this Capstone Project is that the student must have a mentor (me), do research on the specific topic describing what the issue is and hopefully presenting a solution, along with that they need to do 15-20 hours of field work in that area.
Now I have some ideas on what she could research to give her a good jump start. I'm also trying to plan a trip to our local aquarium for a behind the scenes your (I had planned one for our local club and it was a huge success). I'm hoping that this could give her some great hands on experience.
Now I know a lot of the people out there on RC are probably legit graduates, scientists, published authors, divers, teachers, extreme hobbyist...etc. I would appreciate any ideas that you can offer so I can help this student along the way.
If you are a coral/fish vendor I would appreciate any pictures of your coral farming facility to be used in a presentation to show how hobbyist are preserving the reef by growing corals in enclosed systems and if you have access to the actual coral gardens they use out in the ocean I would appreciate any insight to that as well.
Thanks in advance!!
-Mike
