New fan installed and halides turned off. Way too much heat for this setup especially considering the temp of the museum (around 75+).
Does anyone have any LED fixtures that they are not using that they would like to donate? For now we are using only the 2 48" t5's to try and lower the temp.
The tank was up in the high 80's today, but fortunately the livestock is still alive for now.

The Lutz tank committee is continuing to work on maintaining this tank, kudos to all you guys. I heard the temp is better and everything looks healthy. Maybe one of the committee members can do a better update. Thanks everyone involved!

The Lutz tank has been having temperature issues since the beginning of summer, with temps in the mid 80's, approaching 90. It seemed to be a mixture of warms temps in the building, the halide lights, a broken fan and a bad heater. We have turned the halides off for the time being, installed a temporary fan, and took out the heater and replaced it with a used 150 watt. We are looking to replace the used heater with 2 new 150 watt heaters so we have a safe and reliable way to keep the tank up to temp for the upcoming seasons.
The temperature seems to have come down to 80 or so after the changes so we will probably start bringing the halides back on board for 2 or 3 hours and see how it goes.
The tank is doing surprisingly well considering what it has gone through. The fish and shrimp made it through the heat wave, and most of the corals are doing satisfactory. and will hopefully perk up with the lower temps and more lighting then just the 2 T5s we have been running.
I am sure I have forgotten a few things, and encourage other members to chime in!

Just and update on the Lutz Tank.
The tank is doing really quite well. Since we last posted we have added a yellow tang, diamond sleeper goby, and several emerald crabs. Looking to add an algae blenny soon as well. We also replaced the bad heater with two brand new 150 watt heaters.
The committee has put quite a bit of time into this tank but the results are worth it. The museum and kids that attend are very happy with the tank.

It has been a while since we provided an update on the Lutz tank.
Back in December our old halide and T5 combo retrofit started to give us issues. Triggreef let us borrow his Photon 32 until we found a new light. Logan from Reefbreeders was generous enough to donate a Photon 48 to the tank!! We have also added a Lutz Tank portion to the CTARS website that I will keep updated with a list of equipment and livestock.
Unfortunately over the last month or so we have started to go through a bit of an algae phase. We are trying to combat it the best we can with weekly water changes and cleaning. Luckily the livestock is all doing very well. We will be adding a carbon reactor and will be looking for a new skimmer. If anyone has any donations of livestock or equipment please let me know.
Running the last year with 4 volunteers has worked and we would like to now accept a 5th volunteer into the committee. If you are interested please reach out to me.

Jason, do you guys need a reactor for the tank? I have a used reactor that I had posted in last month's meeting trade thread. Someone had contacted me with intent to buy but never followed up with me. Someone else had asked about it but I can't for the life of me remember who that was. Anyways, if you want to use it for the Lutz tank, I'd be more than happy to donate it. Just let me know and I can bring it with me to the next meeting!
Below is a listing for the exact reactor, however, mine was ordered via Amazon. It's probably just over a year old. I used it only about 5-6 months and it has been stored in my barn since. Reactor and pump are in great working condition. I still have the tubing I was using, but it may need to be replaced as I cut it to fit within my sump. It was also not the original tubing that came with the reactor.

I have some short spined urchins I will donate to the tank, I have no nuisance algae for them to eat and also a purple sea fan coral that is too large for my tank.
