Hello everybody
this young fish has been with me since 11/17/22 in this copper quarantine tank (very high error 3.2 for the first 17 days, then restored to normal 2.6)
immediately showed a white spot as in the photo, I imagined it was a small scar, it seemed harmless,
Here's the picture:

now instead (I don't think it was the high copper that kept it under control)
has changed shape size and color, and it makes me a little worried!

This spot is stemmed from an injury, bite or even a poke from the rabbitfish.
This has red mark signifying potential for bacterial infection which is treatable with Seachem Kanaplex for at least 5 days

Deja Vue all over again! I recall responding to a similar thread this week ( but I can't find it now).

Were the first two pictures taken at the same time as the next three? The first two seem superficial, but the next three look more severe to me. The key is that if this was an injury, and it is getting larger/more inflamed, then a secondary bacterial infection is likely.

I swear I used the "search" button first!

no the first 2 photos are from 11/17/22 the others from today, the lesion had remained so since then until 3 days ago. in a few days I'll finish the cycle with copper, if it gets worse instead of starting with prazi, since it's bacterial, doing a cycle with a common amoxicillin + clavulanic acid, proportioning the kg/mg with the aquarium liters/mg could it work?

if I can't find that product, can the pharmacological proposal written above be fine?

I would watch it - No clue what caused it, - or why. But - It does not seem to be any kind of fatal injury
let's hope so! maybe I was lucky, but to date I have never seen such bad marks on my fish, maybe that's why I'm worrying too much!

thanks everyone for the replies! you are fantastic!

I've never used the combination of amoxicillin + clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin is typically dosed orally in fish, it isn't very stable in water. It does have effect against gram negative bacteria, which are the most common ones in external fish skin infections. Neomycin or Kanamycin are two others that I have more experience with. Enrofloxacin can also be used.

I agree with Jay - Amoxicillin is rapidly decomposed in water - and this is worse with high pH. The clavulanic acid part acts only to decrease bacterial resistance. A medication like Kanamycin may be more stable - and have less effects on your bacterial filter. Additionally - Augmentin is an antibiotic commonly used in humans. Though it would be a very small amount - using it in an aquarium may cause resistant bacteria. Kanamycin (and the kanamycin class of drugs) - are not as commonly used currently.

@Jay Hemdal Seachem kanaplex is not found in my state!
- kanamycin is found in the form of vaginal ovules, I don't think it can be good! let me know if i'm wrong
- neomycin sulfate comes in both powder and ointment, I guess the powder is fine.
if one of these products could be fine, how and how much should they be dosed?

The problem with human use drugs is that they often have excipients mixed on with them. Some of these can be harmful to the fish, but all of them change the expected dose. For example, the vaginal kanamycin may be bound up with other material to allow better delivery. It may be that only half the ovule is actual medication.

If the Neomycin powder is pure drug, you can dose that at 66mg/l (250 mg / gallon) every three days for up to three treatments. Monitor the ammonia level in the tank during the treatment though.

Jay
Grazie!
