Hi everyone,

I got a Cubicus Box Fish as a gift from a friend but I am a little worried about it. I read some information about the fish and I figured out that this specie has a poison that can kill all the fishes in the tank if threatened.

I talked with my vendor in my local fish store and they told me not to worry because it does not happen, they already had several fish like that and they never had a problem. This poison is just a myth.

I would like to hear your opinion guys about this fish! Should I keep this fish in my tank or would it be smarter to return it?

Thank you!
Fernando

I heard of a recent study that they actually aren't as toxic as we think, if at all.

They can be finicky, and really need to be in a tank with peaceful members. They get rather big (over a foot) and don't always take to prepared foods, and are easily out competed when they do take food.

Good luck, very cool fish in the right scenario.

I wouldn't worry about the toxin, I've never seen in issue with it.

They don't handle high flow well, are susceptible to ich and other pathogens, don't compete for food, you can't tell if they are getting skinny from not getting enough to eat, and as they get bigger will nip coral.

That all being said, they are an incredibly personable fish rthat everyone that sees falls in love with. This is an actual pet instead of just a fish in a glass box.
