Hello,

Does the size of your CUC correlate with nitrate levels? I have a 134 (total volume) setup with minimal CUC against what websites suggest. For example, I have maybe 5 hermits, 7 various snails, and 2 shrimp. Will stocking more hermits and snails help bring nitrates down? I am experiencing a spike and aside from maybe overfeeding (probably overfeeding) I can't figure out why. To help I have done 20 gallon water changes twice this week, introduced lots of carbon through a reactor and a bag placed in the sump. I have also placed a power head in my sump thinking maybe the debris resting in there is causing it.

How much are you feeding? What's the stocking level that you're feeding? (Is food going uneaten?) What else do you have for nutrient export (skimmer, bioblocks, etc.)? What's your nitrate level typically at? What has the spike gotten nitrates to?
