Vacuum the sand and get your Phosphate and Nitrates under control.

They'll go away on their own.

Yes do a big vacuum cleaning 1-2 hours before you change it.

keep changing every 3 days but just try to stir a bunch of it up before you change your socks. That way it filters into the sock and then you remove it right away!

Another trick if you have a sump, just start a siphon with a hose, place one end in a filter sock in the sump, and start siphoning the sandbed. You can work all day till the sock is full.
