Really don't need to put anything in the sump, eventually whatevers up top, will find its way down below. Guess you could try stuff down there, but not really needed. If your tank is set up and running, turn off the pumps and unless you have check valves, you could seed the sump from the back flow. It's how I have feather dusters living in my return pump area, after all the mechanical filtration.
 
i keep blue legged hermit crabs, and emerald crab, and some snails(astrea, cerith, trochus, bumblebee)
