I want to start culturing phyto and possibly copeopods. This kit is on BRS, if I purchased this kit would I have almost no issues and have absolutely everything I need. Or is there something much cheaper I can do that will have the same amount of success?

I am perfectly fine spending this amount if it means I never need to purchase ether of them again and can do it myself for the “parseable future”

there are many DIY videos on youtube, for both pod culturing and phyto. I use empty plastic pop bottles to culture my phyto, and I use dollar store tupperwares for my pod cultures. Then you just need some starter cultures of the phyto and pods. (and fertilizer for the phyto)

we're talking about water bugs and algae, no need to spend more money than neccessary. Looking at that picture, its just a lot of plastic.

Yep, I use stuff around the house for my cultures. Pop Bottles, OJ bottles, extra airline, extra airpump, regular lamp. No need to spend alot unless you really do not like DIY. ALthough, I think you can come up with all the items in that set in a few minutes much cheaper.

can it be done cheaper and easier? for sure. But I have had these for a few years now and it's as easy as they come. I wanted plug and play and I love my poseidon system. I harvest every week. takes 10 mins. Poseidon also has a culture guarantee if you have a few crashes along the way.

If you are truly in Vegas then you can use the sun and some plastic containers. The energy is free and if fed well you will get tons of phyto. Just make sure you keep your phyto out of the heat of the day. Real sun + nitrate source (I use CaNO3 and MgNO3) grows phyto quickly.

Fancy and pricey plastic.....

Really no need, all u need is one 1l plastic container with lid, piece of tube, straw and air pump.... Plain 2700k bulb.... Some phyto and liquid plant fertilizer.....

Produce more phyto than u can possibly use....

I have 3 empty iced tea bottles in a north facing window with just an air pump and some tubing. Can't even figure out what to do with the amount of phyto this makes and I don't have enough space in my fridge to store much. Wouldn't be bad or wrong to get the kit but phyto is pretty easy. Spending money on rotifers or copepods is worth it though.

I have this kit and I love it. So easy plug and play no guessing. They always respond to emails within a day. Along with the lifetime guarantee only pay shipping for pods and phyto to restart both cultures if and when they crash. I Definitely recommend

+1 the soda bottles and and air pump + a cheap led light from your nearest store.

Phyto is not fussy about where it grows.

With any setup, the main problem is keeping things clean and sterilised so the culture doesn't crash.

So your saying any basic light will grow phyto?
Yup and run lights 24x7 don’t need timer. As stated before secret to keeping phyto going is once it gets going splitting every week, mix new SW, clean old container and try to keep your different algae and bug strains seperate from each otherwise the dominant organism will win. Also have a plan what you are going to do with all that algae.

Your saying there will be a bunch of algae in the container with the phyto?
