So I want to culture these things.....can I feed them crushed pellets or doea it need to be phyto. Tia

I use phyto and find it easiest, but yes, you can feed crushed pellets or flakes. Hmmm, now I'm curious which yields more pods. Maybe I'll experiment and try flakes in one culture, phyto in another, and a mix in a third. I culture in gallon jugs.

Almost anything will work as they essentially are detritivores, but I'm not sure what gives the best yield. I do know they prefer dark containers, and don't thrive in brightly lit clear containers.

I use a mixture of phyto and a very highly concentrated product called Roti-Food from Aquaculturefarms. Pods I buy from AlgaeBarn.

Seriously, they like the dark better? Here I am wondering why my cultures were underwhelming with a shop light on them. Darn
