Cupramine added of 24ml

Hello everyone , i have added cupramine in my DT , with live rocks , of 24ml to my 1000l tank, and after 4 days the ich is again started to come. I dont have a copper test kit , so whats the reason and what to do ?

Agree. Live rock absorbs copper you’ll need to dose a ton. Its impossible to know how much will be absorbed but it’ll be a lot. Copper should be administered in a QT and tested ideally with the Hanna copper checker.

24ml is no where near enough copper for 1000 liter or 264 gallons.

It takes 2ml per 10.5 gallons for therapuetic level. Talking cupramine here.

You will need roughly 50 ml of copper for a tank that large.

Don't do it all at once. Break the dosage up into several smaller doses over a few days.

You will need roughly 1005 ml of copper for a tank that large.

Dose, wait 24hrs at least, test, dose accordingly. 2-5ppm works for me. Initially after you dose, the copper levels will be elevated as absorption starts. Give a few hours and copper levels will go down. Even in a bare substrateless tank, absorption occurs. Generally after 4-6 days, copper levels should sustain. Givin you are dosing with substrate, it will take much longer.

Also the substrate will have to be discarded after treatment if you want to add any invertebrates or corals.

Agree with needing a test kit for sure! Preferably the Hanna High Range Copper Checker.

See where is says repeat dose?

24ml is no where close to even the total dose per the bottle instructions.

To add to that — the measured dose of copper is actually completely irrelevant because I’ve had live rock absorb entire bottles of copper or even more before being “stable”.

I agree, with 0 absorbtion we are talking about an amount of copper that wouldn't even bring it to the therapeutic level here. For a 250+ gallon tank.

Hence the reason the OP is still seeing symptoms.

I’d remove the fish and treat in a separate tank with cupramine level of 0.5 for 30 days. Use the seachem copper test kit to check it.

Please do yourself a favor and do this in a QT, and if you cant, please get the Hanna copper checker, otherwise it'll be almost impossible to know when your at the right dosage, and impossible to keep it there, especially with the rocks absorbing the copper.
