Ok.. Long story short even though i QT all my fish, it finally happened..ICH!!! well its a 43 gallon tank with only a few fish.. a couple of clown fish, some green chromis and a goby. My question is this if i remove all my inverts and place them into my qt tank with my corals can i dose cupramine directly in my DT for the recommended 14 days and then use cooper or cupubsorb to remove it and add my inverts back into the DT tank with the corals?. seems like this would be quicker, 14 days compared to 10 weeks fallow period.. what do you guys think?

Short answer, no. You never want to dose in the display tank. Meds and copper soak into your rock and then leach out over time. Can cause you issues in the future. The best course of action is to qt all fish and let the display tank go fishless for 78 days. Do it right so you don't regret taking a shortcut in the future. Nothing good in this hobby happens fast.

Do you qt all inverts/corals? Of not, that's likely how ich got introduced. I qt my fish as well but some snails/hermit crabs came in with prazi resistant flukes and velvet. Fun stuff.

I'd highly recommend against attempting that. The sand/rock in your dt would constantly absorb then leach the copper back out. It'd be very difficult to keep therapeutic while also not overdosing. You'd then have to worry about any silicone or plastic in the system absorbing it and potentially leaching it out later. Also, whether it be in the dt or an invert qt, you'd still have to segregate the fish from the inverts for 76 days regardless. The 76 days isn't for freeswimmers...It's for the likely encysted tomonts on the inverts/coral/rock/sand/equipment/etc.

I know it'll be a pain, but in the long run catching and quarantining the FISH really is the best/SAFEST/easiest way.

You would need to treat with copper for 4 weeks, and this is not guaranteed to work if you happen to encounter a strain of ich with a life cycle >30 days. That is not the norm, but also not unheard of.

Also, it would take weeks (if not months) of running Cuprisorb/poly filter material to pull all the copper out of the water, because a good deal of it will be absorbed by your rocks & sand.

Ok safe to say I will use the cooper in my QT.. thanks for all the great info guys, thought it sounded to good to be true, never had to deal with ich before I’m almost 100% it came from some sails I added recently.. tanks been up about 2 years with no issues

Exactly how I got velvet. I'm glad you're going the qt route. I know you will be too
