So I was wondering if I should treat my qt with cupramine even if the fish in case is doing great?

I've got a bluehead wrasse who was been in there for a week and just curious if I should do a preventive treatment or wait until symptoms show

Keep doing it for 72days . Treat it less but keep doing it

Go carefully ... wrasses can be sensitive to copper! You might look into the "Tank Transfer Method" of treating for ich in QT.

~Bruce, who's been stung by that bug-a-boo . . .

I quarantine with Cupramine and Prazipro. Some fish do fine on Cupramine and others have a hard time. Preemptive treating is supposed effective against ich, brook and velvet. However, it is a risk. Of course, accidentally introducing velvet to a tank can be a disaster.

Many people find the tank transfer method followed by a Prazipro treatment with a total quarantine run of 5 weeks or more works well.

Treating for ich prophylactically is always a good idea as part of your QT treatment. You can use copper as long as you go slow with it. TTM might be a better idea if your worried about how copper might effect the wrasse. Of course you can always try with the copper first, then if the fish display any signs of sensitivity to copper you can switch to TTM.

IMO; whether to prophylactically treat or just observe for symptoms in QT has more to do with you than the fish. ;)

Folks who should always prophylactically treat for ich & flukes are:
  1. Not the overly observant types.
  2. Don't have 10-15 minutes every day to sit in front of the QT to observe for symptoms.
Folks who can get by with just passive observation in QT include:
  1. Attention to detail types, who will notice not just obvious physical symptoms of disease but behavioral ones such as scratching/rubbing, flashing, head twitching, heavy breathing, swimming into the flow of a powerhead, purposely staying out of the light, etc.
  2. Have the time & patience to sit in front of the QT every single day to observe for the above.
:)
