hello everyone. Having some trouble with my 29 g qt tank and tangs. I have been at 0.5 ppm cupramine (salifert test) for 27 days. Salinity 1.020 temp 79-80. Ich has been disappearing and reappearing all this time. I want to eradicate the ich but do not want to cause copper toxicity to my fish. Is hyposalinity the next step? I ordered a Hanna copper checker to try and rule out faulty test kit. Would more time in copper kill the fish?

Those color matching test kits are horribly inaccurate. And the dosage of Cupramine is small, which makes the therapeutic window even smaller. I've tried the Seachem test kit, Salifert test kit, and was very surprised at the actual level when I finally got the Hanna. I was way off. And I tried all kinds of tricks to view the color matching samples. Even had my wife, an artist, give her interpretations of the color matching test and they turned out to be way off too.
Give the Hanna a chance. I think your sample is a bit light and may not be therapeutic. I hate those test kits.

You could also ditch the quarantine step (assuming its only ich) and treat them by having pristine water quality and feeding them alot of good frozen food. As long it's just ich you'll be surprised how effective this can be. But if your dead set on treating with copper make sure you dont overdose or the fish will die and make sure it's at therapeutic levels the entire time of the treatment or you will experience what your currently experiencing. Good luck hope the fishes make it.

UPDATE: Did some

UPDATE: It does not seem to be ich reoccurring but a secondary bacterial infection due to the high dose of copper. Hanna checker confirmed copper was at .78 ppm. I will be removing copper and dosing kanaplex for the bacterial infection.
