So I lost a damsel pretty fast with no explanation as to what went wrong just rapid breathing one hour dead the next. That was until I saw the dusty look on my other damsel (oh great velvet). I have never used cupramine or any copper based medication so any and all tips would greatly be appreciated. I’ve done a lot of reading on it and it definitely make this stuff sounds very scary. I shipped from amazon and a copper testing kit that will be here today. Anything I should know? My biggest concern is my mandarin who doesn’t have actual scales...

It's not as scary as it seems. Running qt can actually be very easy. Being that your fish are already infected on a serious level, I would ramp up the copper pretty quickly. You can freshwater dip your fish to give them some relief of the symptoms. @HotRocks can explain it better than I. He is the QT guru along with @Humblefish @ngoodermuth @4FordFamily and @Big G

I don't know if the mandarin will tolerate ionic copper (Cupramine) I have successfully treated a mandy with chelated copper (Copper Power).

@Crabs McJones is correct, if you are dealing with velvet you want your copper level to be within the therapeutic range within 48 hours for the best chance of success. As he also mentioned a 5 min FW dip and then a 90 minute acriflavine bath (Ruby Reef Rally contains Acriflavine) would also increase your odds a bit and provide some temporary relief as well as an antiseptic treatment to help prevent a secondary infection at the entrance wound locations.

Thank you all so much, I will hop by my petco and see what they have. It’s been super weird because I’ve dealt with ich and you could just tell the fish were uncomfortable, with what I’m still guessing is velvet, there have been almost no symptoms, just the dusty look spreading. I should mention that it’s only my damsel showing it neither of my clowns or mandarin.
