Ammonia is the biggest concern when using copper cause it kills off some the bacteria that processes the ammonia.Depends on how long it takes for nitrate to build up. Ammonia shouldn't be a concern if it is set up properly. Just make sure to do the water change before dosing cupramine.

Monitor ammonia or get an ammonia alert badge and whenever it starts to get to 0.50 ppm or alert on the badge do a big water change. And dont forget to dose copper into the new water
I dont remember if it kills it but i know it affects their ability to process ammonia. Even in a cycled tank you can have an ammonia spike during copper treatments.Where did you hear of copper killing the bacteria? I am curious as I have never heard that.
Most QT tanks have ammonia issues probably because people seem rarely put any sort of biofilter in the tank or vastly underestimate the need for cycling a QT tank
