Hi folks,

I'm new to the hobby and after about two months of research I have decided to set up a 120 gallon reef tank which I'll be purchasing next Friday (Black Friday). Yesterday I ordered 120lbs of Reef Saver Rock from BRS and I'm very excited to have taken the first step towards setting up my new tank. My question is how do I cure the rock once it arrives so that it is safe to put it in the tank and start cycling/seeding the tank. Most of the information I've read so far seems to combine these two steps. So I'm not sure if the rock can be set up directly in the tank and cycled out-of-the-box since it is dry or if I should take the extra time and cure the rock in a separate container for several weeks and then place it in the tank.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I want to take the necessary steps to have a successful experience.

Thanks.

Welcome to R2R!
When I use dry rock, and absolutely dry I rinse it off and add to my tanks.
I haven't used that in quite some time though
When you Get the rock in you will be able to tell by either moisture or smell if you need to cure it separately

I just got 200 pounds of BRS dry rock for my 210g. All I did was give it a real good rinse. I used the hose to rise it off but I did wash it with RO water before setting it to dry. My understand is that since its dry. Free of any unwanted guests. It's good to go. Especially since it's a newly cycling tank.
